Capadoshia's museums and archaeological sites were visited from January to November by 3.97 million foreign and domestic tourists, according to data from the Directorate of Nosher's culture and tourism, a central province where the site is located.
This means that Cappadocia has exceeded the numbers since 2019, which is considered a "golden year" for the tourism industry.
This figure indicates an increase of 83 % year-on-year compared to the same period a year ago when the number of visitors was 2.16 million.
Cappadocia is known for its fairy chimneys, valleys, underground cities, churches, and museums in the open air.
Göreme Open Air Museum was the most popular site in the region, which was visited by more than 1 million people in the first 11 months of the year.
From January to November 2019, Cappadocia was visited by 3.66 million domestic and foreign tourists.
During the same period of 2020, the influx of coronavirus pandemic diseases decreased due to restrictions. About 962,124 people visited the region from January to November this year.
Cappadocia has been protected by UNESCO World Heritage Since 1985, with its geological heritage locations, and by Monday, it acquired a new identity as part of the list of the top 100 Geo sites in the United Nations.
