The company attributed the shutdown to new strict measures to minimize importing completely knocked-down (CKD) kits and raw materials for vehicles. As a result, the company was forced to shut down production from February 27, 2023, to March 4, 2023.
Due to inflation and declining car sales, companies continued to announce non-productive days, losing 250,000-300,000 direct and indirect jobs. In this era of hyperinflation, when it is difficult to make a living, the decline of Pakistan's auto industry has left thousands of people unemployed. For perspective, Pak Suzuki has witnessed 40 non-productive days in the last 6-7 months, while Indus Motors Co. has been shut down for 53 days since August previous year.
Thousands of people have lost their jobs due to these unproductive days. On top of this, the collective sales of all car companies fell by 40-50%.
