The Department of National Defense says Canada's top military official has just completed a tour of the Ukrainian capital.
A readout released by the department on Saturday said Chief of the Defense Staff General Van Eyre received a detailed briefing from Ukrainian officials in Kiev, including his counterpart, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Also included is General Valery Zlozny.
He says he also met with Ukrainian soldiers, some of whom were trained by Canada under Operation Unifier, which trains Ukrainians in Britain and Poland.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced late last month that Canada would donate four additional Leopard 2 main battle tanks to help Ukrainian forces defend against a Russian invasion, doubling the number of tanks that have been deployed. Canada is cooperating.
Ottawa will also donate an armored recovery vehicle and more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
