Social media giant Meta has announced that it is working on a new "text sharing" platform, which is believed to rival Twitter, at a time when the latter is facing unprecedented hiccups. is facing
Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, confirmed in a statement late Friday that it was starting work on the platform.
The new meta-platform is designed to allow interoperability with other platforms including Mastodon, a decentralized social media platform that operates a bit like Twitter. This will give users the ability to broadcast posts to other networks.
This feature is not available on Twitter. Last December, the platform's new owner Elon Musk briefly banned Twitter accounts that provided links to other social media platforms.
Other platforms such as Instagram and YouTube also do not allow such collaboration, as they are designed with strict technical walls.
