China Unveils Bullet Train Designed for Hangzhou Asian Games

A fixing bullet train specially produced for the Hangzhou Asian Games rolls off the production line in Changchun, northeast China's Jilin Province.

It will run between the 19th Asian Games host city of Hangzhou and the five co-host cities of Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing, and Huzhou in east China's Zhejiang province, CGTN reported on Saturday.

Fixing the theme of the Asian Games, the intelligent Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) consists of eight cars with a capacity of 578 passengers and can reach a speed of 350 km/h.

It is coated in rainbow purple, a dominant color for the event, and decorated with emblems, slogans and patterns of sports images.

Full 5G Wi-Fi network coverage is offered on the EMU and intelligent interactive terminals are available in some vehicles, providing high-speed rail entertainment, wireless screen projection, operation information, and other services to passengers during the journey.

To facilitate the journey of passengers with special needs, the train also has barrier-free carriages, with 90 cm wide doors, barrier-free toilets, and wheelchair storage spaces.

Braille signs have been installed at several service points, such as seats, wheelchair storage areas, and toilets, making it easier for visually impaired passengers to use.

Dozens of test runs have been conducted to optimize its smooth operation, and the seats have been adjusted based on ergonomics.

An automatic air pressure and temperature adjustment system has been installed, which can effectively relieve tinnitus caused by changes in air pressure while passing through the tunnel.

The EMU's locomotive has a bionic design, which will greatly reduce aerodynamic resistance and reduce energy consumption by about 10%.

With the light vehicle body design and overall energy-saving technology, it can save about 1.8 million kilowatts of electricity annually, and the use of Ethernet technology will increase the speed of data transmission on the train by more than 60 times.

A big data analytics platform will help operators monitor its performance and predict malfunctions.
