On the issue of blasphemy of the Holy Quran, hundreds of angry people attacked the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad and set fire to the Swedish embassy.
According to foreign media, the attack on the embassy of Sweden was carried out by supporters of Iraqi leader Moqtadi al-Sadr. There was an early morning demonstration outside the Swedish embassy over the re-allowing of the desecration of the Koran in Sweden. Meanwhile, the protesters entered the Swedish embassy and after breaking into it, they set it on fire.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq has condemned the burning of the Swedish embassy and said that the government has instructed the relevant security authorities to investigate the incident and take necessary security measures.
According to the Iraqi authorities, the embassy staff is safe in the incident, the fire has been extinguished and a large police force has been deployed to control the situation. On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden has said that the full responsibility for the security of the embassy and diplomatic staff rests with the Iraqi government.
