A scheduled demonstration on Wednesday, July 12 at Stortorget Square in Stockholm will witness Lucas, a 29-year-old activist, expressing his discontent by burning the NATO Charter.
Lucas had initially applied for permission to burn the Quran but changed his plans after NATO issued a statement. The police in the northwestern Swedish county of Skane granted permission for the demonstration involving the "burning of a religious text." Notably, the Islamic League organization, responsible for the mosque in the square, was previously allowed to carry out a similar action on July 9.
The burning of the Quran incident in Stockholm drew strong condemnation from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, which summoned the Swedish ambassador. The incident coincided with the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
