The British government has rejected accusations made by Russia on Monday, suggesting that British intelligence services might have played a role in the attack on Russia's bridge to Crimea.
In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Britain's foreign ministry stated, "This is baseless speculation from Russia, and we will not dignify it by commenting further."
Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia's deputy U.N. ambassador, made the claims at the United Nations Security Council without presenting any evidence. Polyanskiy suggested that British intelligence services could have been involved in the attack, which resulted in two deaths, an injured girl, and damage to the bridge.
Polyanskiy also criticized Western nations for not condemning what he referred to as an act of terrorism and stated that further investigation was needed to determine the extent of any involvement by Western, particularly British, intelligence agencies.
The incident occurred early on Monday when a blast caused significant damage to the bridge that connects Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Moscow from Ukraine in 2014. Moscow attributed the attack to Ukrainian sea drones.
