The Palestinian group Hamas launched an unexpected large-scale rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7, breaching the border, and causing casualties and abductions in neighboring Israeli communities. In response, Israel initiated retaliatory airstrikes and imposed a comprehensive blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations General Assembly, on Friday, adopted a resolution submitted by Jordan, which called for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. In contrast, Israel rejected the UN General Assembly's plea for a ceasefire and expressed its intentions to eliminate the Palestinian group Hamas, as stated by Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.
According to the local Ministry of Health, the number of casualties in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 7,300 people since the commencement of hostilities, with over 18,000 individuals sustaining injuries. In Israel, local authorities report that more than 1,400 people have lost their lives, including 300 military personnel, and over 5,000 have been injured.
Several countries in the region, including Turkey and Iran, have criticized Israel's military response, citing the loss of thousands of civilian lives and the extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure.
