Eidul Fitr 2024: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets on 9th April, to witness moon

Amid expectations and scientific knowledge, Pakistan is preparing for the Shawwal-ul-Mukarram moon sighting, which will mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid-ul-Fitr. The meeting of Ruet-e-Hilal Central Committee will be held under the chairmanship of President Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad on April 9, 2024, in Islamabad in which the reports of sighting of the moon will be considered.

Distinguished members from various institutions including Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan Meteorological Department, and Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) will cooperate for the launch of Shawwal. Public participation is encouraged and citizens are asked to report any sightings immediately to designated contact numbers.

Scientific findings offer valuable insight into the lunar calendar. Leading astronomical websites have documented the birth of the new moon on April 8 as predicted by the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted favorable conditions for moon sighting on April 9, especially in the southern regions, although the weather may be cloudy in the northern regions.

As Pakistan waits for the sighting of the Shawwal moon, the combination of traditional practices and scientific advances highlights the importance of accurate calendar determination in Islamic rituals. In a spirit of unity and cooperation, Muslims around the world look forward to the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
