King Charles III has honored British-Pakistani philanthropist and entrepreneur Asif Rangoonwala with the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) title. This recognition, part of the 2024 Birthday Honours list, highlights Asif's significant contributions to philanthropy in the United Kingdom and South Asia, especially in Pakistan.
Asif Rangoonwala, Vice Chair of the British Asian Trust (BAT), was acknowledged for his charity work. Speaking to the media, Asif said, "I am profoundly honored and humbled by this recognition. I am committed to advancing our mission of fostering a fairer and more compassionate world." He thanked his colleagues for their support over the years and emphasized the importance of public service, a legacy he inherited from his parents.
Asif highlighted the impactful work being done in Karachi, especially in education, where tens of thousands of underprivileged children benefit from their schemes. He expressed plans to expand these efforts. Asif also called for more recognition of British Pakistanis, noting their vital role in public life in the UK. "We will be working to bring out more heroes and role models from our communities," he said.
Another Vice-Chair of the British Asian Trust, Shalini Arora, was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her efforts in tackling poverty and inequality. Shalini stated, "This award is a testament not just to me but to the incredible work of so many partners. Together, we strive to create a more inclusive and compassionate society."
Lord Jitesh Gadhia, Chair of the British Asian Trust, congratulated both Asif and Shalini, saying, "Their leadership has been pivotal in advancing our goals and making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. We are immensely proud of their achievements and this well-deserved recognition."
As a prominent business leader and philanthropist, Asif Rangoonwala has significantly impacted the philanthropic landscape for many years. Through the Rangoonwala Foundation, he has supported numerous projects aimed at improving the quality of life for disadvantaged individuals in the UK and South Asia, with a special focus on Karachi. The Foundation provides scholarships for underprivileged students, funds medical research and facilities, and supports community development programs.
