Russia will keep building strong ties and cooperation with Vietnam, President Vladimir Putin said in an article published by Nhan Dan, the official newspaper of the Vietnamese Communist Party, on Wednesday.
"Together with our Vietnamese friends, we will continue to strengthen bilateral ties and develop cooperation for the benefit of our peoples, as well as for stability and prosperity in the region and the world," Putin stated.
Both countries share a similar stance on the Asia-Pacific region, Putin added. Vietnam supports the idea of a new Eurasian security structure that is equal, inclusive, and non-discriminatory.
Putin expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s balanced position on the situation in Ukraine. Russia and Vietnam work closely at important international platforms like the United Nations.
"We appreciate that our countries have similar or close views on important international issues," said Putin.
Putin also noted that the Russian company Novatek plans to launch liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Vietnam. Additionally, Russia is working on creating a nuclear technology center in Vietnam. The president mentioned that payments in national currencies made up 60% of trade transactions between Russia and Vietnam in the first quarter of the year.
