Former U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized pop star Taylor Swift after she endorsed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election.
On Sunday, Trump expressed his dislike for Swift, saying, “I hate Taylor Swift.” This comment added to the tension between him and the singer. Swift had recently praised Vice President Harris in an Instagram post following last Tuesday’s presidential debate. She described Harris as a “steady-handed” and “gifted leader” and stated that she was voting for Harris because of her commitment to important causes. Swift’s post read, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Trump responded to Swift’s endorsement by noting that it was expected, given her past support for Democratic candidates. He suggested that her political stance might affect her popularity and marketability, saying, “She’s a very liberal person… she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
On Fox & Friends, Trump further criticized Swift, saying, “I was not a Taylor Swift fan, it was just a question of time. She couldn’t, uh, you couldn’t possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden, you couldn’t possibly endorse him.”
In a surprising twist, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also weighed in on the situation with a playful comment. Musk tweeted, “Fine Taylor… you win… I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” This tweet appeared to be a humorous reference to Swift’s description of herself as a “Childless Cat Lady” and seemed to critique Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance.
