Pakistan Railways Announces Special Trains for Sikh Pilgrims

Islamabad, November 10, 2024 – Pakistan Railways has unveiled two special trains to facilitate the annual pilgrimage of the Sikh community, offering enhanced transportation options for devotees traveling to Nankana Sahib.

The first special train, scheduled for November 12, will depart from Karachi at 10:30 PM. A shuttle train will depart from Larkana at midnight and connect at Rohri station to continue the journey.

The second special train, set to depart from Nankana Sahib on November 16 at 4:00 PM, will also have a shuttle train from Rohri to Larkana to return pilgrims to their destinations.

These special services are part of Pakistan Railways’ ongoing efforts to cater to the transportation needs of religious pilgrims, especially those attending major gatherings at Nankana Sahib, a key religious site for Sikhs.

In a separate development, Pakistan Railways also launched a special train from Karachi to Raiwind on November 6. The train, comprising 14 economy class coaches, is expected to generate an estimated 8.5 million rupees in revenue. This will contribute to Pakistan Railways’ ambitious target of 100 billion rupees in total revenue for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

In the previous fiscal year, Pakistan Railways reported record revenue of 88 billion rupees, a significant 40% increase from the previous year. Of this, 47 billion rupees were generated from ticket sales, 28 billion from freight services, and 13 billion from leasing railway land and other services.

Pakistan Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch credited the revenue growth to substantial improvements in service quality. He highlighted the full bookings of special trains during Eid as a testament to growing public confidence in the national railway service.

With these initiatives, Pakistan Railways aims to continue its efforts to enhance service offerings and bolster revenue in the coming years.
