Security Concerns Lead to Suspension of Jafar Express and Bolan Mail in Balochistan

Quetta, November 10, 2024 – Pakistan Railways has announced the suspension of two key trains, the Jafar Express and Bolan Mail, for four days starting November 11, citing security concerns in Balochistan. The decision follows the deadly suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station, which left 27 people dead and more than 40 injured.

The Jafar Express, which was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9:00 AM on November 9, was affected by the explosion, which occurred before the train could arrive at the platform. The blast took place near the ticketing area, just as passengers were gathering for their journey. Fortunately, the train had not yet arrived at the station, sparing it from direct impact.

Quetta Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqat confirmed that the bombing was a suicide attack, with the bomber reportedly carrying explosives into the station. Shafqat acknowledged the challenges authorities face in preventing such attacks, particularly with the use of suicide bombers.

In the wake of the attack, Pakistan Railways has taken precautionary measures, halting the operations of the Jafar Express and Bolan Mail services to ensure passenger safety. The suspension is expected to last until November 15, with security being reassessed at the end of this period.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have registered a case at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in connection with the bombing. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify those responsible for the attack.
