Trump Clinches Arizona, Secures 312 Electoral Votes in Presidential Race

President-elect Donald Trump has won Arizona, flipping the battleground state that Democrats had claimed in 2020, according to The Associated Press. The victory gave Trump 312 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed to secure the presidency.

Trump, a Republican, defeated Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who has earned 226 electoral votes. The outcome marks a reversal from 2020 when President Joe Biden flipped Arizona blue after Trump had carried it in 2016.

The election results leave the House of Representatives still up for grabs. As of Saturday, neither party has secured the necessary 218 seats to claim control, though both have made significant gains. Republicans currently hold 213 seats, while Democrats have 202.

Trump’s victory was a decisive one, as he became the first Republican presidential candidate in two decades to win the popular vote.

Republicans have also made notable gains in the Senate, securing four additional seats to increase their majority to 53, compared to 45 for the Democrats.

If Republicans manage to take the House, the party will have achieved what many are calling a “Red Wave,” gaining control of both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government.
