The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed cases against 150 individuals, including journalists, anchors, and vloggers, for spreading misinformation about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest on November 26.
FIA has accused these people of propaganda against state institutions, the federation, and security agencies by spreading false information about the PTI crackdown. So far, over 20 social media activists have been arrested for allegedly posting controversial content regarding the death toll of PTI supporters.
The PTI leadership claimed that security forces killed 12 of their workers during the protest. However, the government has denied these claims and stated that PTI workers spread false information.
In response to this issue, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif set up a joint task force to take strict action against those who spread false news related to the PTI protest.
Following the Prime Minister’s instructions, the FIA filed charges against these individuals under Sections 9, 10, 11, and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
An FIA statement mentioned that charges have been filed against people such as Ahmad Noorani, Hussain Rafique, Ahmad Malik, Azhar Tariq Khan, Imran Khatana, Rizwan Ahmad Khan, Harmeet Singh, Salman Durani, Asif Bashir, Saraj Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad, Abdul Qadir, Aroosa Nadim, Komal Afridi, Maryam Shafqat Malik, and many others.
