Parastu Ahmadi, a well-known Iranian singer, is under legal investigation after performing an online concert on YouTube without wearing a hijab.
During the live performance, Parastu appeared with her hair uncovered, which led to a backlash and legal troubles. The singer, accompanied by four members of her band, held the concert for her fans, and millions tuned in to watch, listen, and comment.
Before the performance, Parastu shared a heartfelt message, saying, "I am Parastu, the girl who cannot remain silent and refuses to stop singing for her beloved country." She also urged her audience to dream of a better future for Iran.
However, the Iranian authorities were quick to respond. According to the judiciary’s Mizan Online News website, a female singer performed music with her band while violating the country’s legal and religious dress code. Although the report didn’t name Parastu Ahmadi, it confirmed that legal action has been initiated against her.
The judiciary accused her of appearing inappropriately dressed and failing to wear a hijab during the performance. Parastu has been summoned to a police station for questioning by a special force responsible for enforcing ethical and religious standards in Iran.
It’s important to note that in Iran, women are required by law to cover their hair in public and are also prohibited from singing in public spaces.
This case has sparked widespread attention online, with many discussing the challenges women face in Iran when expressing themselves artistically.
