Pakistan Welcomes Chinese Investment in Textile Sector

Pakistan has warmly welcomed Chinese investments in its textile sector, said Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, at the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Meeting on Textiles. The event, held in Suzhou, China, aimed to encourage partnerships between Pakistani and Chinese textile companies.

The meeting was organized by the Pakistani Embassy in China, the Pakistani Consulate General in Shanghai, and the Board of Investment (BOI). Suzhou is known as a major center for China’s textile industry. The event brought together eleven leading Pakistani textile companies, who met with 37 major Chinese companies to discuss future business opportunities.

During the event, Ambassador Hashmi talked about the benefits of investing in Pakistan’s textile industry, calling it an important part of the country's economy. He emphasized that Pakistan offers access to global markets, years of expertise, and a strong supply chain for textile production. He also highlighted the advantages of investing in Pakistan, such as the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA), the European Union’s GSP+ program, and the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

Pakistan’s Secretary of the Board of Investment, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, gave a presentation on the country’s investment policies. He explained the various incentives for investors, such as tax benefits, simplified rules, and support for businesses in Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The event is part of a series of initiatives by Pakistan’s Prime Minister to strengthen the country’s industries and improve economic relations with China.
