Protests in Kurram Enter Sixth Day as Residents Demand Reopening of Roads

The residents of Kurram district Parachinar have been protesting for six consecutive days, demanding the immediate reopening of roads that have remained blocked due to tribal clashes. The closures have caused severe hardships, including shortages of food and medicine, sparking public outrage.

Over 100 Children Lost Lives Due to Road Closures

Agha Muzamil, Tehsil Chairman of Upper Kurram, highlighted the tragic consequences of the roadblocks. He revealed that more than 100 children have died due to a lack of access to medical facilities. “People are also struggling with severe shortages of food and other essentials,” he said, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Peace Talks Underway to End the Crisis

In response to the escalating crisis, Kurram’s Deputy Commissioner confirmed the arrival of a Grand Jirga in the district. The Jirga, composed of tribal elders and local leaders, has been tasked with mediating peace between the warring tribes.

Hope for Resolution

Officials are cautiously optimistic that the ongoing peace negotiations will help restore stability in the region and lead to the reopening of critical routes. Reopening the roads will provide much-needed relief to the population, who are currently suffering due to the lack of access to basic necessities.

A Community in Distress

The prolonged road closures have left the community in a state of despair. Residents are urging the authorities to take immediate action to resolve the tribal conflict and ensure safe and open roads for transportation.
