Pakistan's mobile phone industry witnessed significant growth in 2024, with local companies manufacturing or assembling 2.95 million mobile phones in December, marking a 28% increase month-on-month (MoM), according to the latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
During the fourth quarter of 2024 (4Q2024), local manufacturers assembled 8.79 million mobile phones, reflecting a 67% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) increase compared to 5.25 million units in the third quarter (3Q2024).
Local Mobile Phone Production Up 47% in 2024
For the full year 2024, Pakistan's total locally manufactured and assembled mobile phone sales reached 31.38 million units, recording a 47% increase compared to 2023. This remarkable surge is largely attributed to import restrictions, which boosted demand for locally produced devices.
Key Drivers Behind the Growth
The strong growth in local mobile manufacturing is driven by:
✅ Economic recovery
✅ Higher taxes on imported phones, making local devices more affordable
✅ Rising population, increasing demand for mobile phones
✅ Government support for local assembly
Smartphones vs. 2G Phones Production in 2024
Out of the 31.38 million mobile phones produced in 2024:

📞 41% (12.74 million units) were 2G feature phones
Pakistan Now Fulfills 95% of Mobile Phone Demand Locally
In 2024, Pakistan met 95% of its total mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly. This is a significant jump from the 67% average over the last five years (2019-2023) and 47% over the last eight years (2016-2023).
With increasing investments in local production, rising demand, and government support, Pakistan’s mobile phone industry is expected to continue growing in 2025. 🚀
