Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the distribution of 500,000 additional solar systems to low-income families this year.
Speaking in Sukkur, he mentioned that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) initially planned to distribute 200,000 solar panels. So far, 50,000 have been provided, with the remaining units to be delivered soon.
Following the directive of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, the Sindh government decided to expand the program by 500,000 more solar systems to help underprivileged families access renewable energy.
Waste-to-Energy Project in Karachi
The Chief Minister also discussed a waste-to-energy project in Karachi, where authorities collect 15,000 tons of waste daily. The plan is to convert this waste into 50 megawatts of electricity, supporting Sindh’s clean energy initiatives.
Punjab’s Free Solar Panel Scheme
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also launched a Free Solar Panel Scheme. Under this initiative, 100,000 households will receive solar systems worth Rs10 billion, helping people reduce electricity bills.
These projects highlight Pakistan’s shift toward renewable energy to support low-income families and sustainable development.
