Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has clarified that the government’s solar energy policy remains unchanged. He assured that a comprehensive strategy to reduce electricity tariffs is being formulated and announced soon, aiming to provide relief to electricity consumers.
During a high-level meeting on power division affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he emphasized that promoting renewable energy remains a top priority. He directed the relevant authorities to address misconceptions about the solarization policy with accurate information to maintain public confidence.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to solar energy initiatives, ensuring that the policy and priorities remain steadfast. He also directed the resolution of all legal and administrative matters related to the liquidation of generation companies without delay.
Furthermore, PM Shehbaz called for speeding up the privatization of electricity distribution companies to enhance efficiency. He announced that a relief package to reduce electricity tariffs is in the final stages and will be revealed shortly, bringing significant power tariff relief to the public.
He stressed the importance of power sector reforms to lower electricity prices and provide much-needed relief to the public. Additionally, he emphasized improved coordination among the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division to develop a comprehensive energy sector strategy.
