The Sindh government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to empower women by providing them with pink electric motorcycles, a move that has received widespread praise from netizens. Many believe this initiative will boost women’s confidence, mobility, and overall well-being.
A Step Towards Female Mobility
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the scheme during a press conference in Karachi, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing women’s independence in the province.
The decision was finalized in a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, where the Transport and Sindh Mass Transit Authority (T&MTD) presented the plan for sustainable female mobility.
1,000 Electric Bikes for Women
According to the CM House, the initiative will introduce around 1,000 electric motorcycles for women through an open and transparent balloting process. The project requires Rs300 million, which will be sourced outside the provincial budget.
With a rising global trend of women opting for electric motorcycles as a primary mode of transport, the government emphasized that these bikes offer greater mobility, cost-effectiveness, eco-friendliness, and minimal maintenance.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must:
- Be permanent residents of Sindh
- Be a student or a working woman
- Hold a valid two-wheeler driving license
- The recipient cannot sell the electric motorcycle for seven years
The CM House noted that electric bikes will promote economic empowerment, break gender stereotypes, and enhance safety and security for women in Sindh.
With this initiative, the Sindh government aims to create a progressive and inclusive transport system that benefits female commuters across the province.
