U.S. Reportedly Removes Bounty on Afghan Sirajuddin Haqqani

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior has claimed that the United States has removed the $10 million bounty on Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. The claim comes shortly after a U.S. delegation visited Kabul for high-level talks.

During an important meeting, the U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler, and Zalmay Khalilzad met with key Taliban leaders. Following the meeting, the Taliban released American citizen George Gleizman.

A spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior stated that the U.S. has withdrawn the reward for Sirajuddin Haqqani’s arrest. However, the U.S. State Department has not yet confirmed or denied this claim. Despite these assertions, the FBI’s official website still lists the $10 million reward for his capture.

Bounty Removal for Other Haqqani Network Leaders

Afghan media also reported that the U.S. has withdrawn bounty offers for other Haqqani Network leaders, including Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani, both of whom previously had $5 million bounties.

Sirajuddin Haqqani remains on the United Nations’ terrorist blacklist, and the U.S. State Department had previously offered a $5 million reward, which was later increased to $10 million, for information leading to his capture.

The U.S. government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the alleged removal of the bounties.
