Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly opposed the Cholistan Canal project, stating that both the people of Sindh and the entire nation reject it.
While addressing a public rally, Bilawal demanded that the federal government cancel the project immediately. He warned that if the demand is not met, it could break PPP’s cooperation with the ruling coalition and threaten national unity.
He said the project is not only a local political issue but could also create problems for Pakistan at the international level. Bilawal recalled how PPP opposed similar projects under Imran Khan’s government and even helped bring a no-confidence vote to stop them.
PPP vs PTI: Old Battles Revisited
Bilawal mocked former PM Imran Khan by calling him “prisoner number 420” and accused him of approving two of the six controversial canal plans that PPP had opposed earlier.
He stressed that fair water distribution is not just a national matter, but also an international responsibility. He criticized the current government for ignoring provincial rights and said PPP is standing firm to protect Sindh and Pakistan’s federation.
"Respect Sindh or Lose Our Support," Bilawal Warns
Bilawal reminded the federal government that PPP helped form the current coalition government and that Shahbaz Sharif is Prime Minister today because of Sindh’s support. He added that PPP is not demanding ministries, just respect for provincial concerns.
He also slammed the government’s policies on agriculture, citing the wheat scandal and tax burdens that hurt farmers. He asked how poor farmers in Sindh and Punjab would survive under such economic pressure.

PPP Suggests Alternative Path
Bilawal said he is ready to work with the government on a long-term solution for agricultural growth, but only if the controversial canal project is scrapped.
“PPP has always stood for the people. We won’t stay silent or allow injustice,” he declared, stressing that silence should not be mistaken for surrender.
PPP’s Fight Continues
Bilawal stated that PPP has passed a resolution against the canal in the Sindh Assembly and also raised the issue in the National Assembly. He further mentioned that even the President of Pakistan rejected the canal in his recent speech to Parliament.
He called on all supporters to join a massive protest in Sukkur on April 25 as part of PPP’s resistance campaign.
PPP Victory in Umerkot By-Election
At the start of his speech, Bilawal congratulated PPP workers for their success in the Umerkot by-election. He said the people of Sindh have once again shown their loyalty to PPP and to the legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.
He ended by saying, “Pakistan Khappay — we will always fight for the rights of the people and for a united, strong federation.”
