EQQN Predicts 5.4 Magnitude Quake in Pakistan and Afghanistan

Shahbaz Leghari, head of the Earthquake Quick News and Research Center (EQQN), has predicted a possible 5.4 magnitude earthquake that may affect both Pakistan and Afghanistan in the coming week.

According to Leghari, earthquake tremors are likely to be felt in both northern and southern regions of the two countries. He also warned of possible seismic activity in Turkey, Greece, and Myanmar.

Leghari highlighted that EQQN recently made a correct prediction in April, showing the strength of their earthquake forecasting system, which can detect possible quakes up to 128 hours in advance.

He stressed the importance of preparedness and awareness in areas that are at risk, urging the public and authorities to stay alert.

Although the science of earthquake prediction is still debated, EQQN’s forecasts have gained attention, especially in regions with a history of frequent earthquakes.


Recent Earthquake Tremors in Pakistan

On April 12, earthquake tremors were felt in many areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including:

  • Swabi
  • Nowshera
  • Mohmand
  • Shabqadar
  • Malakand
  • Mardan
  • Peshawar
  • Lower Dir

The tremors also reached parts of Punjab such as:

  • Hassan Abdal
  • Chakwal
  • Mianwali
  • Chiniot

According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.4 and occurred at a depth of 13 km. Thankfully, there were no reports of damage to life or property.

The epicenter was located about 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi.
