KARACHI: The city of Karachi, facing severe water shortages for the past three days, has finally seen relief as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) successfully restored the water supply after completing urgent repairs on two major 84-inch diameter main lines in Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth.
Water Shortage in Karachi During Repair Work
The city's water supply had been severely disrupted, with Karachi experiencing a 40% shortfall in its regular daily water supply during the repair process. The city, which requires over 1,200 million gallons of water per day (MGD), had been receiving only 400 MGD due to the repair work on the mains, which led to significant inconvenience for residents.
Additionally, water supply through water bowsers was also affected, with hydrants suffering from a shortage, further exacerbating the hardships faced by Karachi's residents.

KWSC's CEO, Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, commended the dedication and quick response of the WTM team, led by Chief Engineer Zafar Palejo, for their tireless efforts in completing the repair work ahead of time. Siddiqui described the achievement as a testament to the growing efficiency of the KWSC.
Pipeline Repair and Ongoing Issues
The 84-inch diameter main lines had been leaking for some time, prompting KWSC to initiate a major overhaul. Officials explained that the two mains had developed leaks multiple times in recent months due to their deteriorating condition. The repair operation was carried out in response to the ongoing issues, with teams working non-stop to minimize disruption.
Restoration of Water Supply
As per the officials, water supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station typically takes 14 to 16 hours to reach Karachi's distribution network. However, residents can expect to start receiving water by Sunday morning as per the regular schedule, following the successful repair work on the main lines.
KWSC officials assured that the water supply would gradually be restored to all affected areas, providing much-needed relief to Karachi's residents after the prolonged shortage.
