The Lahore High Court has said that it is very important to stop the spread of motorcycle rickshaws in the city. If not controlled, these rickshaws will soon spread all over Lahore. The court has also said that companies that manufacture motorcycle rickshaws should be shut down. However, these companies will be given three months to regulate their services properly.
This decision was made during a hearing on a smog prevention case. The court pointed out that motorcycle rickshaws are causing air pollution, traffic jams, and accidents. The court also asked for a report about the summary sent to the Chief Minister regarding the possible ban on these rickshaws.
The court mentioned that traffic is also badly affected by protests on Mall Road and major events like the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The judges said that such events and protests should not give the world the wrong impression that Pakistan is unsafe. Security is important, but the whole city should not be closed down. Even ten minutes of traffic jams can increase pollution.
