A state minister in Pakistan, Kheal Das Kohistani, was attacked during a protest in Thatta district of Sindh province. Protesters, angry over a new canal project, threw tomatoes and potatoes at his convoy while chanting slogans against the federal government.

Kheal Das Kohistani is a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and currently serves as the Minister of State for Religious Affairs. Fortunately, he was not injured in the incident.

Government Leaders React

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Kohistani to express support and promised a full investigation into the attack.

"The attack on a public representative is unacceptable. Those involved will be given strict punishment." — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Information Minister Atta Tarar also demanded a detailed report from Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon and the Federal Interior Secretary.

Sindh Government Condemns the Incident

Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, strongly condemned the attack, stating that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.

He directed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Hyderabad to arrest those responsible and submit an immediate report.

According to the National Assembly website, Kohistani is from the Jamshoro district of Sindh. He was first elected to parliament in 2018 and re-elected in 2024. He currently holds the position of Minister of State for Religious Affairs in the federal cabinet.
