Myanmar’s earthquake has resulted in 2,719 deaths, with approximately 4,521 people injured and over 400 missing, according to a report by China Central Television (CCTV) on Tuesday. Myanmar’s leader, Min Aung Hlaing, indicated that the death toll could exceed 3,000.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand has surpassed 1,644, with hundreds still reported missing. According to official figures, the earthquake has left over 1,644 dead and 2,400 injured in Myanmar.
Rescue teams are actively working to retrieve people trapped under the rubble, while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has warned that fatalities could exceed 10,000.
Media reports indicate that the earthquake, which struck Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, was so powerful that its tremors were felt 900 kilometers away in Bangkok, Thailand. Several buildings and infrastructure collapsed in the Thai capital.
The tremors were also felt in India’s Meghalaya and Manipur states, Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, and parts of China.
Officials in Bangkok reported receiving 2,000 cases of structural cracks, while a high-rise under construction collapsed, killing 10 people and leaving 100 workers missing. A 33-story building in Bangkok also partially collapsed, trapping 47 individuals under the debris.
The earthquake caused extensive damage in Myanmar, including 2,900 buildings destroyed, 30 highways severely damaged, and 7 bridges collapsed.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck on March 28, 2025, with a magnitude of 7.7 and a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located 17.2 kilometers from Mandalay, Myanmar.
