Sindh Lawyers' Sit-in and Shutter Down Strike

The lawyers' sit-in protest at Babarlo Bypass in Khairpur against the construction of new canals from the Indus River has continued for the third consecutive day. The protest has triggered widespread shutter down strikes across many districts in Sindh.

Widespread Shutdowns Across Sindh

Major cities including Jamshoro, Larkana, Naushehro Feroz, Sujawal, Nawabshah, and Ghotki have seen complete shutdowns. Businesses, shops, and even petrol pumps have remained closed as part of the protest.

In Larkana, markets were shut and trade activities came to a halt in nearby towns like Ratodero, Baqran, Dokri, and Badah. Similarly, in Jamshoro and Nawabshah, shopkeepers observed a total strike.

Transportation Suspended

Vehicular traffic between Sindh and Punjab has been suspended due to road blockades. Political workers, especially from nationalist parties, have blocked the National Highway at key points like Halani and Kandiaro, further disrupting connectivity.

Protesters’ Demands and Statements

Protesters claim the construction of new canals is a deliberate move to harm Sindh’s agriculture.

“The canal-building project is a conspiracy to turn Sindh’s fertile lands into desert,” said speakers during the protests.

More Cities Join the Movement

Additional towns like Naushehro Feroz, Moro, Padidan, Kandiaro, Mehrabpur, and several others have joined the shutdown, amplifying the protest's reach and intensity across the province.
