NAB Recovers a Record Rs11.5 Trillion in Three Years

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has made a record recovery of Rs11.5 trillion over the past three years, according to its report shared with the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice on Wednesday.

The report reveals that NAB reclaimed 4.85 million acres of government land, saving the country around Rs11 trillion. It also returned Rs213 billion to 129,000 victims of housing fraud. Additionally, NAB froze assets worth Rs85.4 billion in anti-money laundering operations.

The report highlights the significant returns for every rupee spent on the institution, noting that for every Rs1 spent, NAB recovered Rs629. However, the report also pointed out challenges, particularly the restrictions preventing NAB from pursuing cases involving less than Rs500 million, which remain a major hurdle in the fight against corruption.

Further, NAB mentioned that 16 out of 23 accountability courts are currently active across the country, with the rest closed. On average, it takes six years for a court to make a decision on a case. In 2025, 58% of NAB’s cases resulted in convictions, while 42% of accused individuals were acquitted.

In terms of internal reforms, NAB also saved Rs660 million by cutting 238 posts from its staff.
