The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning of heavy rains in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan in the next 12 to 24 hours. Severe flooding is expected in Sindh today.
India has released more water into the Sutlej River. In Jalalpur Pirwala, a breach in the Chenab Dam has submerged several villages. Floodwaters are rising rapidly. Authorities are working to save the city’s embankments. Rescue teams are on high alert. Five drones and 50 boats have been deployed to rescue residents.
In Jhang, a tent camp for flood victims was submerged. In Gujarat, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif supervised the drainage of floodwaters. Much of the city is now free of water.
Extreme flooding continues on the Hariki banks of the Sutlej river. Rising water levels are also being reported in lower Ferozepur. At head Panjnad, the inflow and outflow of the Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers reached 609,669 cusecs. At head Termo, 543,000 cusecs was recorded in the Chenab.
Heavy rains in Jhang and surrounding areas since last night have worsened the flood situation. Hundreds of villages in Muzaffargarh have been submerged. A new inflow of water has come to Rangpur, due to which the pressure of the Ravi river along with the Chenab river has increased.
In Jalalpur Pirwala, 100 villages are already under water. Water could inundate the city at any time. Dams near the villages of Shah Rasool and Bait Wahi have broken. Water has also entered houses in Bahadurpur. Authorities have ordered the evacuation of the city.
At Akbar Flood Dam, the water level has risen to 126 meters. During the night operation by Rescue 1122, 143 people were rescued from Karamwali and Darabpur.
In Multan, 2,343 people have been rescued in the last 24 hours. A total of 10,810 people have been evacuated so far. District authorities have evacuated more than 350,000 people and more than 300,000 livestock as a precaution.
