The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced a major step toward digital modernization by introducing a cashless payment system across all airports in the country. This move aims to make every airport transaction digital and eliminate the use of cash completely.
In partnership with the State Bank of Pakistan, the PAA will introduce QR code-based payment systems to simplify payments for passengers, staff, and vendors. This initiative is designed to improve convenience, ensure transparency, and strengthen financial security within airport operations.
First Phase Implementation
The first phase of the project will begin at the major international airports in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. QR-based digital payments will be launched at these airports within the next few weeks.
In the second phase, the system will expand to airports in Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot, and later cover all regional airports across Pakistan.
Objective of the Digital System
According to a PAA spokesperson, this project is part of the authority’s wider plan to digitize airport operations and support Pakistan’s national fintech vision. The goal is to create a contactless, traceable, and fully secure payment system that reduces the risk of fraud and speeds up transaction times.
The official also stated that the new system will enhance efficiency and provide travelers with a smoother and safer payment experience.
Launch of the Digital Payment System
The Pakistan Airports Authority has officially launched its Digital Cashless Payment System at major airports, marking a historic shift in the country’s aviation and financial infrastructure. Travelers can now pay airport fees and service charges digitally using QR codes and the Raast instant payment system instead of cash.
Under the supervision of the Director General (Commercial and Administration) at PAA, the project aims to make all airport payments paperless and digital. Passengers can scan QR codes at payment counters using their mobile banking apps or internet banking. The transaction is processed instantly through Raast, the real-time payment platform developed by the State Bank of Pakistan.
How to Make a Digital Payment
- Scan the QR code displayed at the airport payment counter using your mobile banking app.
- Choose the Raast payment option in the app.
- Enter the required amount as shown for the service.
- Confirm and pay — the payment will be processed immediately.
- Receive a digital receipt on your mobile device for confirmation.
This simple and quick process means travelers no longer need to carry cash for airport services such as parking, luggage handling, or other fees.
Integration with the Raast Payment Platform
The Raast digital payment system, developed by the State Bank of Pakistan, is at the center of this initiative. It allows secure, real-time transactions between banks and mobile wallets, ensuring every payment is instant and transparent.
By integrating with Raast, PAA’s payment system connects directly with the national digital network, helping build a cashless and traceable economy.
Benefits for Travelers and Staff
The Digital Cashless System offers several important benefits:
- Cashless Convenience: No need to handle or exchange cash.
- Mobile Payments through Raast: Pay easily using any bank or Raast-linked app.
- Instant Transactions: Payments are processed in real time.
- Digital Receipts: Automatic receipts for every transaction.
- High Security: Payments are verified and processed through the secure State Bank system.
- Time Saving: Quick scanning and instant payments reduce waiting time.
Moving Toward a Digital Future
This cashless transformation marks a major step in Pakistan’s journey toward becoming a digitally connected economy. It supports the government’s Digital Pakistan Initiative by promoting safe, efficient, and transparent financial systems.
With all airports going digital, Pakistan is entering a new era of smart airport management where convenience, speed, and security come first for travelers.
