CPPA Requests Rs.1.64 Per Unit Increase in Electricity Tariff for February

Consumers across the country could face higher electricity bills as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested an increase of Rs1.64 per unit in electricity tariffs for February. This rise is part of the monthly fuel adjustment.

The request will be reviewed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on March 31. If approved, the tariff hike could add over Rs14 billion to the cost of electricity for consumers across Pakistan, including those in Karachi.

According to data from the CPPA, 7.696 billion units of electricity were generated in February, and 7.427 billion units were supplied to distribution companies at an average cost of Rs8.37 per unit. This is higher than the reference cost of Rs6.73 per unit, which has contributed to the need for the tariff adjustment.
