The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the weather system over the northeast Arabian Sea has intensified into Cyclonic Storm SHAKTI.

As of now, the cyclone is centered at Latitude 21.7°N and Longitude 66.8°E, approximately 360 kilometers south of Karachi. The storm is expected to move west-northwestward initially, with further intensification into a Severe Cyclonic Storm anticipated within the next 24 hours. Subsequently, it is forecasted to shift west-southwestward toward the central North Arabian Sea.

Weather Impact & Forecast

Under the influence of Cyclone SHAKTI, light to moderate wind-thunderstorms/rain are likely in the following districts today and tomorrow:

  • Sindh: Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Karachi (isolated areas)
  • Balochistan: Hub, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech

Marine & Wind Conditions

  • Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough along the Sindh coast, with squally winds of 40–50 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h.
  • Around the cyclone center, gale-force winds of 65–75 km/h, gusting to 85 km/h, are likely by the evening of October 4.
  • Wind speeds may further increase to 100–110 km/h, gusting up to 125 km/h, with very rough to high seas expected over the central and northern Arabian Sea from October 3 to 6.

Fishermen Advisory

Fishermen are strictly advised to avoid venturing into the deep sea until October 5, due to hazardous sea conditions.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi is actively monitoring the system and will continue issuing regular updates. Relevant authorities are urged to stay alert and follow official advisories.
