Former Lt Gen Faiz Hameed Sentenced to 14 Years, Says ISPR

Former senior military officer Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, according to an official statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

ISPR said that a Field General Court Martial was held under the Pakistan Army Act. The trial lasted 15 months, during which the court reviewed evidence, witness statements, and legal arguments.

According to ISPR, Faiz Hameed faced four separate charges:

involvement in political activities,

violating the Official Secrets Act,

misuse of authority and official resources,

and causing unlawful harm to people connected with the case.

During the trial, the prosecution presented records, communication evidence, and testimonies to support each charge. The defence contested the allegations, but the court found the evidence strong enough to convict him.

Military authorities said the legal process was long and carefully monitored, with multiple hearings. After reviewing everything, the court found the former general guilty on all charges.

His 14-year sentence will officially begin on December 11, 2025. The military has confirmed that all procedures followed the required legal rules and internal checks.

This conviction comes as Faiz Hameed also faces scrutiny in the Top City housing scheme case, which has gained national attention.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan earlier ordered a thorough investigation into claims that Faiz Hameed and others were involved in misconduct linked to the housing project. The case began after Moeez Ahmed Khan, the owner of Top City, filed a petition.

According to the petition, Rangers personnel and ISI officials conducted an unauthorised raid in May 2017 at the Top City office and at the home of Kunwar Khan, a senior member of the project. They allegedly took gold, diamonds, and cash, saying the operation was related to a terrorism investigation.

The petition also claims that a meeting later took place between Kunwar Khan and Faiz Hameed, during which Hameed agreed to return some of the seized items. However, 400 tolas of gold and a large amount of cash were allegedly not returned.

Kunwar Khan further alleges he was pressured and threatened, and that retired ISI brigadiers Naeem Fakhar and Ghaffar demanded Rs40 million and support for a private TV network.

Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed is a retired three-star general from the Pakistan Army’s Baloch Regiment. He previously served as Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 2019 to 2021. Over his more than 30-year career, he commanded the Peshawar and Bahawalpur corps and held several senior roles in operations and intelligence. He has been considered one of Pakistan’s most prominent military figures in recent years.

A Field General Court Martial is one of the highest military courts under the Pakistan Army Act, usually led by senior officers. It handles serious offences committed by serving or, in some cases, retired military personnel.

ISPR has not shared additional details about the incidents or matters that formed part of the court proceedings against Faiz Hameed.
