Google has unveiled a new cloud-based platform, Private AI Compute, designed to let users access advanced AI features while keeping their data secure. Similar to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, this service aims to balance growing privacy concerns with the increasing computational demands of AI.
Currently, many Google products perform AI functions—such as translations, audio summaries, and chat assistance—directly on devices. This approach ensures that personal data stays on phones, Chromebooks, and other devices. However, Google acknowledges that as AI tools become more powerful, devices alone cannot handle the necessary processing.
Private AI Compute addresses this challenge by running complex AI tasks in a secure cloud environment. Google describes it as a “fortified space” where sensitive data remains fully private and accessible only to the user—not even Google can access it. The platform promises security levels comparable to on-device AI processing.
The company says this new cloud capability will make AI tools smarter and more context-aware. For example, Pixel 10 users can expect enhanced suggestions from Magic Cue, an AI feature that pulls relevant information from email and calendar apps. Additionally, the Recorder app will now support transcriptions in a wider range of languages, offering users more flexibility and convenience.
