Underground Rail Network Proposed by PAE for Karachi
KARACHI: Karachi traffic is getting worse day by day. Pakistan Academy of Engineering (PAE) has now come up with a big plan. They say Karachi needs its own underground railway. This is the only proper fix for the city’s transport problems.
This plan came out at PAE’s 40th Symposium. The topic was about underground transport in big cities. Experts came from Pakistan, America and China. They all looked at how underground trains work in Singapore, New York, Washington DC, Delhi, Friedberg and Dhaka.
After long discussions everyone agreed on one thing. Karachi needs two underground railway routes. First one will go from Numaish Chowrangi to Merewether Tower. Second one will go from FTC Sharea Faisal to I.I. Chundrigar Road and Tower.
PAE President Prof. Dr. Brig. (retd.) Nasim Akhtar Khan said Karachi is growing very fast. Roads are already full and traffic is choking the city. He said proper planning is needed right now. Underground railway is the right answer for Karachi he said.
Academy also said this underground train will work with the BRT already running in city. Both will run together as one transport system. This way many more people can travel easily.
Experts said this project will change Karachi for good. Traffic jams will reduce. Moving around the city will become much easier. Less cars means less smoke and cleaner air. And millions of people will travel safely every single day.
