Supreme Court Introduces Digital Payment System for Court Fees

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken another important step toward modernising the country’s judicial system by signing a three-party agreement with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and 1LINK (Guarantee) Ltd to introduce digital payment solutions for court-related services.

The agreement was signed on Thursday in the presence of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, senior court officials, and representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan and 1LINK.

This initiative is part of the Supreme Court’s broader reform and digitisation programme aimed at improving public services and making judicial processes more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly through the use of technology.

Once the new system is fully implemented, litigants, lawyers, and other court users will be able to pay court fees electronically through approved digital payment channels. This will replace the traditional manual system that currently relies on legal fee stamps.

The move is expected to make the payment process much easier and more convenient for people dealing with court matters. Instead of purchasing and submitting physical stamps, users will be able to make payments digitally, saving both time and effort.

According to officials, the digital payment framework will help streamline financial transactions related to judicial services. It is also expected to reduce processing times, lessen administrative workloads, and decrease dependence on paper-based procedures.

The new system will bring greater transparency and accountability to financial transactions within the judicial process. It will also improve access to court services for litigants and legal practitioners by providing a simpler and more efficient payment method.

Participants at the signing ceremony stressed the importance of using modern technology to improve institutional performance and public service delivery. They noted that digital solutions can help government institutions operate more efficiently while making services more accessible to citizens.

The initiative is also expected to support Pakistan’s broader goals of digital governance and public sector modernisation. By introducing electronic payment systems into judicial administration, the Supreme Court aims to create a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly court system.

Officials believe that the project will not only improve the overall experience of court users but will also contribute to the long-term modernisation of judicial administration in Pakistan.
